6 Superfoods you should be eating this summer!

It’s officially Summer and in order to look and feel your best this season, you shouldn’t skip out on your superfoods. Superfoods are nutrient-rich foods essential for our health and well-being.

You don’t have to completely switch up your diet to get these benefits. Simply including some superfoods in your  diet can elevate your nutrition and take your summer fit goals to the next level. No single food in isolation can provide all the health benefits and energy you need to nourish your body which is why I’ve listed six superfoods you should be eating.

Watermelon

Watermelon is a super refreshing and ultra hydrating fruit to enjoy this summer. Made up of 92% water, Watermelon contains a type of amino acid called L-citrulline, which is actually shown to assist in fat loss. It also contains heaps of vitamins and minerals like potassium, magnesium and vitamin C.

Greek Yogurt

Greek yogurt contains high amounts of protein with virtually no fat or sugar, making it one of the best sources of protein out there. Non-fat, plain greek yogurt is one of the most underrated superfoods. Protein is important to help stabilize your appetite, and help you reach your physique goal. Plus, it’s a bonus that Greek yogurt is cool and refreshing on a hot summer’s day. There are many frozen, savory Greek yogurt snacks you can make.

Mango

Mango is a super rich source of vitamin A which is vital for skin health and immunity. Mango has also been shown to aid digestion, help regulate blood pressure, and if consumed in moderation can help in weight loss which is important if trying to stay lean this summer.

Pineapple

Pineapples are low in calories but have a  nutrient profile of many vitamins and minerals such as Thiamine, Fiber, Vitamin C, and Potassium just to name a few. Also if you bloat frequently, Pineapples contain a special type of protein called Bromelain.  Bromelain  helps your body break down macronutrients more effectively, which reduces the bloat. Additionally, pineapple is rich in vitamin C for antioxidants and immune protection.

Almonds

Almonds are a super convenient snack that pack a nutritional punch. Almonds are a healthy source of fat, fiber, and protein.  Due to their high levels of riboflavin and L-carnitine, almonds are one of the most popular foods that benefit the brain and prevent cognitive decline. They also happen to be one of the highest sources of vitamin E to keep your cholesterol levels healthy and provide your body with antioxidant protection and also supports gut health. You can eat them whole, diced, sliced or crushed into almond flour or almond butter.

Oats

One of my favorite breakfast foods, you may not think of oats as a summer food, but you should. Oats are a source of complex carbs and fiber, to give you sustained energy for your workouts and summer adventures. Instead of having traditional oatmeal, you can try overnight oats. Leaving your oatmeal in the fridge overnight makes it refreshing to eat in the morning so you can start your day off right.

In conclusion, there are plenty of health benefits of superfoods. To ensure your body stays healthy and functions properly, you should incorporate these superfoods into your diet. However, keep in mind that there are limitations when it comes to consumption. The key to a balanced diet is avoiding overstuffing with a single food. Instead, explore enjoying a variety of food options.
